# Scanner HD vs PDF Scanner

Scanner HD and PDF Scanner both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of PDF Scanner's written reviews are positive against 54% of Scanner HD's. PDF Scanner also leads on ads (none vs shown). Scanner HD's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (316 vs 50). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scanner HD sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and PDF Scanner sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Scanner HD holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner HD has 316 ratings behind it against 50, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 54% of Scanner HD's written reviews are positive against 100% of PDF Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Scanner HD ships an update fortnightly, PDF Scanner every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
