# Fermentation vs Outside

The clearest difference is ads: Outside at none against Fermentation's shown. Outside also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 23 months) and ratings volume (1.8K vs 1). Fermentation's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Fermentation sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Outside sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $89.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Fermentation holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Outside has 1.8K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Fermentation's written reviews are positive against 22% of Outside's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Fermentation ships an update every 23 months, Outside every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
