# Leaf Journal vs Diary Duck

The clearest difference is update cadence: Diary Duck at weekly against Leaf Journal's every 3 months. Diary Duck also leads on iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and ratings volume there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Leaf Journal sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month and Diary Duck sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Diary Duck holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 93 and 77 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 41% of Leaf Journal's written reviews are positive against 33% of Diary Duck's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Leaf Journal ships an update every 3 months, Diary Duck weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
