# xWord Stacks vs Word Burst

The clearest difference is rating: Word Burst at 4.9 against xWord Stacks's 3.0. Word Burst also leads on ratings volume (7 vs 1). xWord Stacks's advantage is update cadence (every 10 months vs every 24 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. xWord Stacks sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and Word Burst sells 9 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Word Burst holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Word Burst has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

xWord Stacks ships an update every 10 months, Word Burst every 24 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
