# i2VPN vs Shield VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: Shield VPN at free with in-app purchases against i2VPN's subscription. Shield VPN also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.6). i2VPN's advantage is review sentiment (86% vs 60%) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 4 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. i2VPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Shield VPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for i2VPN against 4.6 for Shield VPN. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: i2VPN has 3.7K ratings behind it against 503, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 86% of i2VPN's written reviews are positive against 60% of Shield VPN's.

i2VPN ships an update every 2 weeks, Shield VPN every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
