# Free vs Microsoft Designer

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Free at none against Microsoft Designer's 7. Free also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.5) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 3 weeks). Microsoft Designer's advantage is ratings volume (556 vs 4) and chart position (#130 vs unranked). On price and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Microsoft Designer sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Free asks for nothing beyond the download.

Free holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Microsoft Designer has 556 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of Free's written reviews are positive against 76% of Microsoft Designer's.

Free ships an update every 4 days, Microsoft Designer every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
