# Black Box Gym vs Commando Studio

The clearest difference is update cadence: Commando Studio at every 3 weeks against Black Box Gym's every 8 months. Commando Studio also leads on ratings volume (70 vs 3). Black Box Gym's advantage is monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Black Box Gym against 4.9 for Commando Studio. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Commando Studio has 70 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Black Box Gym ships an update every 8 months, Commando Studio every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
