# StepsToday vs Disco Steps

The clearest difference is ads: Disco Steps at none against StepsToday's shown. Disco Steps also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.6). StepsToday's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (63% vs 50%). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. StepsToday sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Disco Steps sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Disco Steps holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: StepsToday has 131 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of StepsToday's written reviews are positive against 50% of Disco Steps's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

StepsToday ships an update fortnightly, Disco Steps every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
