# StepsToday vs Step Counter

The clearest difference is rating: StepsToday at 4.6 against Step Counter's 4.0. StepsToday also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (131 vs 4). Step Counter's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 63%) and in-app purchases (none vs 1). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. StepsToday sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Step Counter asks for nothing beyond the download.

StepsToday holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: StepsToday has 131 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of StepsToday's written reviews are positive against 100% of Step Counter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

StepsToday ships an update fortnightly, Step Counter every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
