# MapGenie vs Reel Player

The clearest difference is update cadence: Reel Player at every 3 weeks against MapGenie's every 37 months. Reel Player also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). MapGenie's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.5). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Reel Player sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 55 and 32 respectively.

MapGenie ships an update every 37 months, Reel Player every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
