# FreeScout vs Proton Pass

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Proton Pass at 68% against FreeScout's 21%. Proton Pass also leads on rating (4.8 vs 2.3) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 15 months). FreeScout's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.0). On price, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Pass sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $35.90 per year. FreeScout asks for nothing beyond the download.

Proton Pass holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Pass has 8.9K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 21% of FreeScout's written reviews are positive against 68% of Proton Pass's.

FreeScout ships an update every 15 months, Proton Pass fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
