# Smartnet vs MATE VPN

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Smartnet at none against MATE VPN's 10. Smartnet also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.7 vs 4.4). MATE VPN's advantage is ratings volume (8.7K vs 3). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MATE VPN sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Smartnet asks for nothing beyond the download.

Smartnet holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MATE VPN has 8.7K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.
