# VPN vs Squirrel VPN Internet Security

The clearest difference is rating: Squirrel VPN Internet Security at 4.2 against VPN's 3.2. VPN's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (46 vs 5). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per 3 months and Squirrel VPN Internet Security sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $8.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Squirrel VPN Internet Security holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN has 46 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two.

VPN ships an update every 3 weeks, Squirrel VPN Internet Security every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
