# Ostrich VPN vs Online Shield

The clearest difference is monetization model: Ostrich VPN at freemium against Online Shield's subscription. Ostrich VPN also leads on review sentiment (88% vs 55%) and chart position (#162 vs unranked). Online Shield's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks). Both are free to download. Ostrich VPN sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per 7 days and Online Shield sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Ostrich VPN against 4.5 for Online Shield. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 24K and 8K respectively. Written reviews are what separate them: 88% of Ostrich VPN's written reviews are positive against 55% of Online Shield's.
