# Clipper Card vs AC Transit Mobile

The clearest difference is rating: Clipper Card at 3.8 against AC Transit Mobile's 2.5. Clipper Card also leads on ratings volume (12K vs 12) and chart position (#131 vs unranked). AC Transit Mobile's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (22% vs 3%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Clipper Card holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Clipper Card has 12K ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 3% of Clipper Card's written reviews are positive against 22% of AC Transit Mobile's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Clipper Card ships an update every 3 months, AC Transit Mobile every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
