# MapGenie vs WishCounter

The clearest difference is rating: MapGenie at 4.5 against WishCounter's 3.4. MapGenie also leads on ratings volume (3.2K vs 11). WishCounter's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 36 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and WishCounter sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 3.2K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 43% of MapGenie's written reviews are positive against 57% of WishCounter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MapGenie ships an update every 36 months, WishCounter every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
