# MapGenie vs RFG Social

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: RFG Social at none against MapGenie's 1. RFG Social also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 days vs every 36 months). MapGenie's advantage is ratings volume (3.2K vs 10). On price, rating, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. RFG Social asks for nothing beyond the download.

RFG Social holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 3.2K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two.

MapGenie ships an update every 36 months, RFG Social every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
