# DNS Security vs Encrypted DNS

The clearest difference is rating: DNS Security at 4.8 against Encrypted DNS's 4.1. DNS Security also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs monthly) and ratings volume (72 vs 8). Encrypted DNS's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. DNS Security sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Encrypted DNS asks for nothing beyond the download.

DNS Security holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: DNS Security has 72 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two.

DNS Security ships an update every 2 days, Encrypted DNS monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
