# Read Out Loud Reader vs SpeakMe

The clearest difference is rating: Read Out Loud Reader at 4.3 against SpeakMe's 1.6. Read Out Loud Reader also leads on ratings volume (310 vs 9). SpeakMe's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 14%) and update cadence (weekly vs monthly). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Read Out Loud Reader sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and SpeakMe sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Read Out Loud Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 1.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Read Out Loud Reader has 310 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of Read Out Loud Reader's written reviews are positive against 50% of SpeakMe's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Read Out Loud Reader ships an update monthly, SpeakMe weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
