# Cat and Escape vs Dark Notes

The clearest difference is rating: Dark Notes at 4.7 against Cat and Escape's 3.8. Cat and Escape's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 4 months) and review sentiment (53% vs 43%). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Cat and Escape sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and Dark Notes sells 5 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Dark Notes holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 17 and 30 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of Cat and Escape's written reviews are positive against 43% of Dark Notes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Cat and Escape ships an update every 3 weeks, Dark Notes every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
