# Pencil vs Poetrify

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Poetrify at 100% against Pencil's 57%. Poetrify also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (6 vs 1). Pencil's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.5). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Pencil holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Poetrify has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of Pencil's written reviews are positive against 100% of Poetrify's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Pencil ships an update fortnightly, Poetrify every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
