# Whiteboard vs Chalk

The clearest difference is ads: Whiteboard at none against Chalk's shown. Whiteboard also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 8 months) and ratings volume (465 vs 19). Chalk's advantage is review sentiment (75% vs 43%) and monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Whiteboard sells 7 one-off in-app purchases and Chalk sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.2 for Whiteboard against 4.2 for Chalk. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Whiteboard has 465 ratings behind it against 19, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 43% of Whiteboard's written reviews are positive against 75% of Chalk's.

Whiteboard ships an update fortnightly, Chalk every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
