# Future Messages vs Shimmerly

The clearest difference is rating: Shimmerly at 4.6 against Future Messages's 4.0. Shimmerly also leads on ratings volume (1.1K vs 23) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 2 weeks). Future Messages's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Future Messages sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Shimmerly sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shimmerly holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Shimmerly has 1.1K ratings behind it against 23, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 77% of Future Messages's written reviews are positive against 55% of Shimmerly's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Future Messages ships an update every 2 weeks, Shimmerly every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 4, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
