# Data Transfer vs Smart Switch

The clearest difference is ads: Data Transfer at none against Smart Switch's shown. Data Transfer also leads on ratings volume (1.1K vs 163) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.6). Smart Switch's advantage is review sentiment (54% vs 19%). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Data Transfer sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per year and Smart Switch sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $18.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 3.9 for Data Transfer against 4.0 for Smart Switch. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Data Transfer has 1.1K ratings behind it against 163, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 19% of Data Transfer's written reviews are positive against 54% of Smart Switch's.

Data Transfer ships an update every 3 weeks, Smart Switch every 5 weeks. Both last shipped on October 14, 2026.
