# uScan vs ScanMate

uScan and ScanMate both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 47% of uScan's written reviews are positive against 0% of ScanMate's. uScan also leads on ratings volume (15K vs 352) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). ScanMate's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. uScan sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and ScanMate sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for uScan against 4.7 for ScanMate. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: uScan has 15K ratings behind it against 352, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 47% of uScan's written reviews are positive against 0% of ScanMate's.

uScan ships an update every 3 weeks, ScanMate every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
