# Electro VPN vs Bora

The clearest difference is monetization model: Bora at free with in-app purchases against Electro VPN's subscription. Bora also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.5) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Electro VPN's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (2.2K vs 171). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Electro VPN sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days and Bora sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Bora holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Electro VPN has 2.2K ratings behind it against 171, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 84% of Electro VPN's written reviews are positive against 86% of Bora's.

Electro VPN ships an update fortnightly, Bora every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
