# GhostGuard vs VPN MAX

The clearest difference is monetization model: VPN MAX at free with in-app purchases against GhostGuard's subscription. VPN MAX also leads on update cadence (every 5 days vs every 6 weeks). GhostGuard's advantage is review sentiment (82% vs 60%) and ratings volume (987 vs 123). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GhostGuard sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and VPN MAX sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $8.00 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for GhostGuard against 4.5 for VPN MAX. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GhostGuard has 987 ratings behind it against 123, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 82% of GhostGuard's written reviews are positive against 60% of VPN MAX's.

GhostGuard ships an update every 6 weeks, VPN MAX every 5 days. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
