# Books Reader vs SeaKey

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: SeaKey at none against Books Reader's 9. SeaKey also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). Books Reader's advantage is ratings volume (22 vs 1) and update cadence (every 3 months vs every 8 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Books Reader sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. SeaKey asks for nothing beyond the download.

SeaKey holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Books Reader has 22 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Books Reader ships an update every 3 months, SeaKey every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
