# MD Widgets vs Island Widgets

The clearest difference is monetization model: Island Widgets at free with in-app purchases against MD Widgets's subscription. MD Widgets's advantage is rating (4.4 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (6.5K vs 186). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MD Widgets sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Island Widgets sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MD Widgets holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MD Widgets has 6.5K ratings behind it against 186, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of MD Widgets's written reviews are positive against 59% of Island Widgets's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MD Widgets ships an update every 10 days, Island Widgets every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
