# Waterway Guide vs VHtrails

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: VHtrails at none against Waterway Guide's 43. VHtrails also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Waterway Guide's advantage is ratings volume (2.9K vs 8) and chart position (#185 vs unranked). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Waterway Guide sells 43 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per year. VHtrails asks for nothing beyond the download.

VHtrails holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Waterway Guide has 2.9K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two.
