# Shortwave vs Files.com

The clearest difference is rating: Shortwave at 4.7 against Files.com's 4.2. Shortwave also leads on ratings volume (749 vs 5). Files.com's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 65%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Shortwave holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Shortwave has 749 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of Shortwave's written reviews are positive against 100% of Files.com's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shortwave ships an update every 3 weeks, Files.com monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
