# Airthings vs McGas Propane

The clearest difference is rating: McGas Propane at 5.0 against Airthings's 4.4. McGas Propane also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.6). Airthings's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (3K vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

McGas Propane holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Airthings has 3K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Airthings ships an update fortnightly, McGas Propane every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
