# Trex AR vs PPG Paints

The clearest difference is monetization model: PPG Paints at free against Trex AR's free with in-app purchases. PPG Paints also leads on review sentiment (20% vs 6%). Trex AR's advantage is ratings volume (722 vs 22) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Trex AR holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Trex AR has 722 ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 6% of Trex AR's written reviews are positive against 20% of PPG Paints's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Trex AR ships an update every 4 months, PPG Paints every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
