# Self vs Mindscape

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Self at 57% against Mindscape's 18%. Self also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 4 weeks). Mindscape's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.1). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Self sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Mindscape sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Mindscape holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.1. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 261 and 112 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of Self's written reviews are positive against 18% of Mindscape's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Self ships an update weekly, Mindscape every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
