# WidgetCat vs Egern

The clearest difference is rating: WidgetCat at 5.0 against Egern's 4.2. WidgetCat also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 2 weeks) and iOS requirement (14.2 vs 16). Egern's advantage is ratings volume (79 vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WidgetCat sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Egern sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

WidgetCat holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Egern has 79 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

WidgetCat ships an update weekly, Egern every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
