# SmartThermal vs TargetIR

The clearest difference is rating: SmartThermal at 5.0 against TargetIR's 4.0. TargetIR's advantage is review sentiment (28% vs 8%) and ratings volume (7 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

SmartThermal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TargetIR has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 8% of SmartThermal's written reviews are positive against 28% of TargetIR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SmartThermal ships an update every 6 weeks, TargetIR every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 23, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
