# SmartThermal vs Speedometer GPS

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: SmartThermal at none against Speedometer GPS's 5. SmartThermal also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). Speedometer GPS's advantage is review sentiment (33% vs 8%) and ratings volume (9K vs 1). On price and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speedometer GPS sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. SmartThermal asks for nothing beyond the download.

SmartThermal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speedometer GPS has 9K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 8% of SmartThermal's written reviews are positive against 33% of Speedometer GPS's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SmartThermal ships an update every 6 weeks, Speedometer GPS every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
