# Emoji Explorer vs Itchy for Scratch

The clearest difference is rating: Emoji Explorer at 5.0 against Itchy for Scratch's 4.1. Emoji Explorer also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). Itchy for Scratch's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (79% vs 50%). Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Emoji Explorer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Itchy for Scratch has 31 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Emoji Explorer's written reviews are positive against 79% of Itchy for Scratch's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
