# ShieldGPS vs IMThing

The clearest difference is rating: ShieldGPS at 4.9 against IMThing's 1.0. ShieldGPS also leads on ratings volume (17 vs 1) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). IMThing's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ShieldGPS holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ShieldGPS has 17 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

ShieldGPS ships an update every 2 months, IMThing monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
