# Royal Chess vs eChess

The clearest difference is review sentiment: eChess at 100% against Royal Chess's 30%. eChess also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 7 months). Royal Chess's advantage is rating (4.0 vs 3.0) and in-app purchases (none vs 4). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. eChess sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Royal Chess asks for nothing beyond the download.

Royal Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Royal Chess has 67 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 30% of Royal Chess's written reviews are positive against 100% of eChess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Royal Chess ships an update every 7 months, eChess every 2 months. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
