# Video Player vs RealPlayer

The clearest difference is ads: RealPlayer at none against Video Player's shown. RealPlayer also leads on ratings volume (1.5K vs 41) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Video Player sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and RealPlayer sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

RealPlayer holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: RealPlayer has 1.5K ratings behind it against 41, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 50% and 50% positive.

Video Player ships an update every 2 months, RealPlayer every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
