# Mastodon vs Beeper

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Mastodon at none against Beeper's 4. Mastodon also leads on ratings volume (13K vs 1.1K). Beeper's advantage is update cadence (every 6 days vs monthly) and review sentiment (71% vs 48%). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Beeper sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Mastodon asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Mastodon against 4.7 for Beeper. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mastodon has 13K ratings behind it against 1.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 48% of Mastodon's written reviews are positive against 71% of Beeper's.

Mastodon ships an update monthly, Beeper every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
