# Boxes vs Microscopya

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Microscopya at none against Boxes's 1. Microscopya also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs monthly) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.0). Boxes's advantage is ratings volume (13K vs 32) and rating (4.9 vs 4.5). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Boxes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Microscopya asks for nothing beyond the download.

Boxes holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Boxes has 13K ratings behind it against 32, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 85% of Boxes's written reviews are positive against 78% of Microscopya's.

Boxes ships an update monthly, Microscopya every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
