# Close Encounters Protocols vs Code Rain

The clearest difference is rating: Close Encounters Protocols at 4.2 against Code Rain's 3.8. Close Encounters Protocols also leads on ratings volume (266 vs 11) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Close Encounters Protocols sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Code Rain sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Close Encounters Protocols holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Close Encounters Protocols has 266 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 35% of Close Encounters Protocols's written reviews are positive against 38% of Code Rain's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Close Encounters Protocols ships an update every 2 months, Code Rain every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 22, 2026 respectively.
