# Nitro Photo vs Cobalt Image

The clearest difference is rating: Nitro Photo at 4.8 against Cobalt Image's 2.3. Nitro Photo also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and review sentiment (86% vs 56%). Cobalt Image's advantage is update cadence (every 5 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Nitro Photo sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Cobalt Image sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Nitro Photo holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Nitro Photo has 62 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two.
