# FlowCrypt vs Encrypted Email

The clearest difference is monetization model: FlowCrypt at free against Encrypted Email's freemium. FlowCrypt also leads on rating (4.0 vs 3.8) and review sentiment (50% vs 42%). Encrypted Email's advantage is ratings volume (76 vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.4 vs 15.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

FlowCrypt holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Encrypted Email has 76 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 50% of FlowCrypt's written reviews are positive against 42% of Encrypted Email's.

FlowCrypt ships an update every 4 months, Encrypted Email every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
