# Vmod vs Play

The clearest difference is ads: Play at none against Vmod's shown. Play also leads on rating (4.3 vs 3.8) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Vmod's advantage is ratings volume (1.5K vs 114) and review sentiment (63% vs 50%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Play holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Vmod has 1.5K ratings behind it against 114, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Vmod's written reviews are positive against 50% of Play's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Vmod ships an update fortnightly, Play weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
