# BigBearVPN vs ExpressSpeed

The clearest difference is review sentiment: ExpressSpeed at 100% against BigBearVPN's 40%. ExpressSpeed also leads on rating (4.3 vs 2.8). BigBearVPN's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (336 vs 4). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BigBearVPN sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and ExpressSpeed sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ExpressSpeed holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BigBearVPN has 336 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 40% of BigBearVPN's written reviews are positive against 100% of ExpressSpeed's.

BigBearVPN ships an update every 3 weeks, ExpressSpeed every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
