# MX Player vs Liveland

MX Player and Liveland both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Liveland's written reviews are positive against 16% of MX Player's. Liveland also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 14 months). MX Player's advantage is ratings volume (14K vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for MX Player against 4.3 for Liveland. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MX Player has 14K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 16% of MX Player's written reviews are positive against 100% of Liveland's.

MX Player ships an update every 14 months, Liveland every 4 days. Both last shipped on November 5, 2026.
