# Discover Madison vs SAM Transit

The clearest difference is monetization model: Discover Madison at free against SAM Transit's free with in-app purchases. Discover Madison also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8). SAM Transit's advantage is ratings volume (260 vs 1) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Discover Madison holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SAM Transit has 260 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Discover Madison ships an update every 2 months, SAM Transit every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
